Abortions are bad, dying to preventable diseases is good!

My mom blocked my Facebook account, I no longer get to see the majority of her posts. I can see stories, however. Or reels, I think they're called?

After reading that almost 25% of Republicans admit they are poorer under Trump, I was curious if my mother was succumbing to this financial stress too. Doesn't seem like it, since the far-right rhetoric is still in full effect.

A Facebook story featuring a mostly-still video of a smug-looking woman with the text "Democrats mandated a vaccine linked to higher miscarriages. Democrats legalized killing babies up until they are born. Democrats raged when a surrogate refused a third-trimester abortion. That's how you know they're evil."
So smug drinking that coffee behind a wall of lies

I have no idea who this woman is, but I believe she is featured in both reels my mom shared. She doesn't do anything in them, just stares into the camera with a smug expression on her face. Assuming this propagandistic text is hers, she wears her ignorance like a badge of honor.

I'm going to rapid-fire these claims, since this isn't the main point of this post. You're welcome to skip ahead to the next image if you're already familiar with these tired talking points.

Democrats mandated a vaccine linked to higher miscarriages

Wow, two false claims in a single sentence right off the bat!

There was no vaccine mandate. Anyone who claims there was is an idiot who doesn't know what words mean.

Second, the miscarriage statistic is bad math from miserable fuck Ron Johnson and legitimized only by Dr Fauci's private messages being exposed for the world to see for some reason. The small study actually claimed a 12.6% miscarriage rate. There have been larger studies since and they haven't found any evidence of an increased miscarriage rate from the vaccine. No link, no mandate. A swing and a miss!

Democrats legalized killing babies up until they are born

Unborn babies are not babies. Republicans legalized killing moms by banning life-saving abortions of non-viable pregnancies. Actually evil. Next!

Democrats raged when a surrogate refused a third-trimester abortion

I'm not even going to look this one up because surrogacy is messy and anyone who thinks a simple solution exists in these cases is naΓ―ve.

That's how you know they're evil

Actually I think the group that can only make arguments by lying or misrepresenting the truth in order to further their harmful agenda is the evil one.

On to the next post!

A Facebook story featuring a mostly-still video of a smug-looking woman with the text "🚨 BREAKING Parents can now officially SUE their state if it refuses to allow religious exemptions for vaccines. This is a MASSIVE win for parental rights and medical freedom. πŸ‘"
"I recorded myself staring into the camera, caked in makeup, and that makes me an influencer"

This is what I really want to write about today. The anti-vaxx garbage right next to a post villainizing the left for killing babies. Maybe you haven't seen the news, but news flash, measles is making headlines multiple times a month. With regards to the US losing its measles elimination status, it's a matter of when, not if. But sure, celebrate that you just learned of the right to sue the state, something you always had, by the way.

I think this post says a lot about what messages resonate with right-wingers. First that we're discussing a post with no merit at all. This isn't breaking news. Nothing has happened. And yet my mother found this post worthy of sharing with her friends and family. But also, we're talking about making it easy for nasty (and sometimes deadly) diseases to spread, and dressing it up as a win for freedom. Meanwhile, aborting a child a prospective mother is not prepared to raise, that's not freedom. It's murder.

I can understand seeing both of these things as murder, even while I don't agree with that stance. But abortion being murder and negligence as a parent isn't? When there's no shortage of evidence proving beyond a reasonable doubt that vaccines are safe and effective? That doesn't sit right with me. It's idiotic, it's dangerous, and it's inexcusable.

Oh, and it's a "religious" exception! As if there's a passage in the Bible that tells us to let preventable illness ravage ourselves and our communities. Why stop there? The choice to not wear your seatbelt and drive should be a religious exemption too. Sky diving without a parachute? Religious exemption. It's such a deeply personal matter.

But sure, let's bring the Bible into this. Why not? Depending on interpretation and which translation you read (Christians still read the Bible, right?), Numbers 5:11-31 may actually condone abortion under certain circumstances. Or if that's too ambiguous for you, God demanded that the Canaanites, including women, children, and even babies, must be slaughtered (Deuteronomy 20:16-17). Which leads me to my closing announcement:

🚨 BREAKING!! 🚨 The motionless video chick has spoken!
